Gullwing Shadow DLX Trucks


Gullwing Shadow DLX trucks are the modern equivalent to their classic Street Shadow trucks of the late 80s, and will feel much more familiar to most younger skaters than their classic Pro III trucks; gone is the signature Gullwing hangar “scoop” and Tracker-esque swept pivot, and instead you’ve got a fairly regular street-style geometry and hangar.

That’s not to say this is just some generic truck; Gullwing have included a built-in speed washer on both the hangar and the axle nuts, meaning you never have to worry about losing your washers again; they’ve also kept the baseplate shaped so that you can replace the built-in splined kingpin with a traditional hex-head or inverted kingpin. We approve.

These are sold in pairs, so just choose a suitable deck and set of wheels and you’re good to go.

I mean, you’ll also need bearings, griptape, and bolts, but if we typed all that out, we’d be here forever. Oh. Damn.

Film Inverted Kingpin Set

If you've ever done enough grinds to totally ruin your kingpin nut, got hung up on a crack in the pool coping mid-smith, or tried to ollie-to-pogo only to smash a round hole in the side of your shin, you should probably try these inverted kingpins out. It's a 2" long kingpin with a slim hexagonal head, a 5.5mm or 7/32" allen slot, and rounded edges. You put the nut underneath the baseplate, and then this rounded head sits below the hangar, (hopefully) eliminating all your kingpin-based woes - and, unlike other inverted kingpins, you can still adjust it with a regular skate tool, so you don't get stuck with a rounded-off allen socket and an unadjustable truck.

This isn't just a kingpin upgrade, though; these also come with replacement washers so you can throw out the bent and battered ones you've been using for a while. Note that they're designed for Film's double conical bushing kits, so if you prefer a barrel bushing underneath the hangar, you'll need to keep your original washer for that.

One last thing: note that these kingpins rely on a proper hex slot in the baseplate - which a lot of modern trucks don't have. Check the chart below to see the trucks we've checked these will work with.

The Gullwing Shadow DLX truck is an old-school truck with a modern feel. If you want something with proper 1980s quality but that can handle modern street skating, this is the truck for you.

Currently, we only stock the 8.5″ version of the Gullwing Shadow DLX, and we’ve measured it as having a real-world hanger measurement of 147mm, an axle of 8.43″, and a height to the center of the axle of about 51mm with the stock bushings, with a weight (including all supplied nuts and washers) of 390g per truck. That means these are relatively low trucks compared to trucks in this size from other brands. Stick to small wheels or throw some risers in your setup!

The bottom bushing is a 13.5mm tall barrel, and the top one is a 9.5mm tall cone. The provided bushings measure 88a on our durometer. The bushing seat in the hangar is fairly open, with an elliptical hole for the kingpin, so expect these to turn quite deeply when pushed.

The baseplate is double-drilled, having both the new school (shorter) hole pattern and the original 80s style holes, meaning these will fit on any board in existence, whether it’s a modern shaped deck or a classic reissue.

Finally, the pre-installed kingpins are of the modern splined variety, but the baseplate is shaped to hold a hex head kingpin or nut in place without any movement at all. If you wanted to use an inverted kingpin for better grinds, this would be a perfect candidate.
