FILM x Death 4.25 Trucks

£44

Looking for something a little different for your freestyle setup? FILM trucks have collaborated with the UK’s Death Skateboards for a special edition truck – and they’ve made us some 4.25″ ones to fit any freestyle deck between 7.25″ and 7.4″ wide.

If you’ve skated or seen the regular 4.25″ FILM trucks, you know what to expect: high quality construction and a great turn. Only now you can do it with a little more style. Also, for bonus points, the Death Skateboards logo is glow-in-the-dark. If you’re not as excited about that as we are you’re obviously dead inside.

(Note that new FILM trucks have removed the old-school mounting holes on the baseplate – we just haven’t updated the photos yet.)

We recommend a bushing upgrade:

96a FILM Bushings

Most bushings are fairly standard – either a barrel or a cone for the bottom of the truck (i.e. nearest to the board) and a cone on the top. Some companies have played with inserts to make the bushing more solid, and some have produced “stepped” bushings to hold the bushing in place better, but as far as we’re aware none* have tried to eliminate or reduce one of the biggest sources of sloppy truck performance: the hangar moving around the kingpin.

FILM‘s bushings include an insert on the top cone which aims to do the same job a spherical bearing does on CNC trucks – namely keeping the kingpin central in the hangar.

Have you ever been on a truck and felt a slight deadzone, where the truck leans but doesn’t turn? These should help eliminate that.

One kit provides enough parts to totally rebuild one set of trucks. Before you buy, check the compatibility list below to make sure they fit your trucks. If the combination isn’t listed and they don’t fit, let us know and we’ll give you some money off your next order.

These are the 96a Film bushings, meaning they’re firmer than most standard bushings. We recommend these for freestyle or vert use – or street and park if you like a stiffer truck. Note that they might not be the colour shown in the photo – Film keep changing the colours on each production run! – but they will be the same durometer, and that’s the most important bit… right?

*The Seismic Aeon does a bloody good job of this, but as they use a totally different bushing shape only compatible with their trucks, it doesn’t count for the purposes of this explanation. Sorry, Dan.

Unsurprisingly, this new FILM x Death Skateboards collaboration truck is very similar to the regular 4.25″ FILM trucks. But, in the interest of completeness and providing all the data you need, here’s all the measurements for these, blatantly copied and pasted from the other page:

We’ve measured the FILM 4.25 up, and we seem to get a real-world hanger measurement of 108mm, an axle of 6 7/8″, and a height to the center of the axle of about 51mm with the stock bushings, with a weight (including all supplied nuts and washers) of 310g per truck – making these trucks an almost exact match with the Independent 109mm at a much lower price.

The bottom bushing measures 14mm, and the top one is 10.3mm – with a specially-shaped extension to fit around the kingpin in the hanger to hold the hanger central and reduce slop. The provided bushings measure 90a on our durometer, so we recommend harder aftermarket ones for freestyle use.

Finally, the pre-installed kingpins are of the modern splined variety, but there is a space in the baseplate for a hexhead; we can’t guarantee a traditional or inverted kingpin would be held without wobble until we try it ourselves, but being as FILM now sell an inverted kingpin kit, it should work.
