Death Dan Cates Jack in the Box 9.1″ Notch Deck

The latest Dan Cates graphic from Death Skateboards isn’t one for the Coulrophobics out there; if your idea of hell is being forced to watch It, maybe stay away from this one.

This is also a whole new shape; most shaped Death boards use the same 9″ “pool shape” (like Ronnie Calow’s recent “gate” model). This is a new “notch shape”, with subtle money bumps and a more angled nose – which is exactly our sort of thing.

Check the description below for details on the width of the deck at the truck holes so you can figure out how best to set up this shaped deck.

Length: 32″
Width: 9.1″
Wheelbase: 14.25″
Nose: 7.5″
Tail: 6.75″

Choosing trucks for a shaped deck isn’t as simple as with a “normal” straight-sided popsicle. The widest point of this Dan Cates deck from Death Skateboards is 9.1″, but it’s more like a straight 9″ at the front truck and just 8.25″ at the back.

That 9″ front suggests you probably want to use something like the Ace 55s (the red baseplate ones would look particularly good with this graphic) to match up with the width at the front truck and leave the wheels exposed at the back. However, if that stresses you out too much (or if you’re using chunky wheels), maybe split the difference a bit and step down to the 8.75″ axle of Film’s 6.0″ trucks. You’ll still get a bit of exposed wheel at the back, but it won’t be quite as drastic (or as heavy) as using the larger trucks.
